Background: Armed with Mao Tse-tung's thought in the high tide of the great Proletarian Cultural Revolution and fired with determination and lofty ideals, Shanghai workers are constructing China's first oxygen top-blown converter workshop.
The project represents a major technical revolution in steel-making in the community contemporary world. Highly automatized and equipped with the latest technique, this converter workshop is expected to make important contributions to the development of China's iron and steel industry.
A tremendous motive force for this engineering project has been the great proletarian cultural revolution. Grasping the revolution with one hand, the workers tackle production with the other. Using Mao Tse-tung's thought - this sharpest of weapons - they vigorously repudiated the bourgeois technical 'authorities' and resolved to scale the summits of the world's steel smelting industry.
The great strategic thinking of Chairman Mao of concentrating forces to fight a war of annihilation was brought into play by the workers and staff from more than 150 units in Shanghai. A big campaign unfolded on an unprecedented scale as the construction site was turned into a magnificent scene with over 4,000 people engaged in the job on all sides.
The high quality hull of the converter was made by workers of the Shanghai Heavy Machine Tool Plant who creatively studied and applied Chairman Mao's works and brought their initiative and ingenuity into full play.
The converter's gas cleaning and recovery device recovers a large quantity of surplus heat and gas. The amount of gas expected to be recovered each year is enough to make more than 40 thousand tons of chemical fertilizer.
In accordance with Chairman Mao's teachings, the workers threw away foreign conventions and took China's own road of developing industry. Daring to make revolution and to seize victory, they finally succeeded in smashing the blockade and obstacles imposed on China by the imperialists and modern revisionists; all the necessary equipment was turned out at top quality.
Mao Tse-tung's thought is a spiritual atom bomb of incalcul-power. All the heroic exploits accomplished by the workers are results of their living study and application of Chairman Mao's works.
The flow of molten steel proclaims the birth of China's first automatic oxygen top-blown converter workshop. It represents a tremendous victory achieved by the Shanghai workers who, holding high the great red banner of Mao Tse-tung's thought, have grasped the revolution to push production amidst the high tide of the great proletarian cultural revolution. It is a great victory of Mao Tse-tung's thought.
