Snead scored a two-under-par 70, his third below par round, for a 54-hole total of 204. Six strokes behind lay Thomson, who took 70.
The lowest round of the day was that of Irishman Christy O'Connor. He played a 68, four under par. His card showed six birdies, and placed him fourth in the individual standing with a 54-hole tally of 213.
