Background: High winds buffeted the Mikoyan farewell party as it watched the Soviet Deputy Premier climb aboard his TU 104 jet airliner at Copenhagen, Jan 23. Anastas Mikoyan had one day in Copenhagen after his false start from New York - one of the plane engines caught fire.
During that one day Copenhagen police put in a week's work - escorting Mikoyan and guarding his plane. The Soviet leader spent a large part of the day touring the Burmeister and Wain shipyard.
When he arrived back in Russia a small party of relatives and friends were waiting to welcome him. The USSR still regards his high-powered 'goodwill' American tour as "a holiday".
