    Background: AN IMPORTANT COMMUNIST VIETCONG ARMS DUMP WAS SEIZED BY SOUTH VIETNAMESE AND AMERICAN FORCES IN THE MEKONG DELTA, 50 MILES SOUTH OF SAIGON ON SATURDAY (1 MAY). THE DUMP WAS FOUND IN DEEP SWAMPLAND AFTER FOUR DAYS OF BATTLE. THE VIETCONG BUILT IT INTO A KEY SUPPLY CENTRE FOR THEIR FORCES OPERATING IN THE WHOLE MEKONG DELTA. IN THE BATTLE, THE VIETCONG SUFFERED 152 DEAD, 38 CAPTURED AND 42 SUSPECTS DETAINED.

    GOVERNMENT LOSSES WERE THREE KILLED AND 11 WOUNDED.

    THE CACHE: 1,000 RUSSIAN-MADE RIFLES, ONE TON OF PLASTIC EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL, GERMAN-MADE HEAVY MACHINE GUNS, 90 CHINESE-MADE SUBMACHINE GUNS AND 240 AMERICAN-MADE SPRINGFIELD RIFLES. ALSO FOUND WERE HEAVY MORTAR PIECES AND SIX SOPHISTICATED LIGHT-WEIGHT FLAME THROWERS.

    THE INDIAN AND POLISH MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONTROL COMMISSION, INSPECTED THE CAPTURED ARMS WHICH WERE PUT ON DISPLAY AT THE OPERATIONAL HEADQUARTERS IN NEARBY HOA PROVINCE. THEY WERE LATER AIRLIFTED IN A TROOP-CARRYING HELICOPTER TO THE SCENE OF DUMP.
