Background: During their tour of Nigeria the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were filmed on an informal visit to the Man War Bay Training Centre May 24.

After a car ride to Bota and a trip along the coast on board the HMNS Challenger the Royal guests had lunch with the Principal of the Training Centre, Mr. Snowsell.

Later they toured the centre, watched some of the activities and talked to those attending the course and their instructors. They returned to Victoria by Land Rover along a boulder-strewn track.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester - the first members of the Royal Family to visit the Southern Cameroons - took particular interest in the history of Victoria and the efforts of the British to destroy the slave trade along this part of the West African coast where Man O' War Bay played its part by providing shelter for the British sloops.
