Background: A rally of bicycles, tricycles and motorcars - some dating well back into the 19th century - was filmed by VISNEWS at Lake Zurich June 20/21.
Organised in the Swiss Motor Veterans Club, the rally was the second of its hind in Switzerland. It brought out "anything on wheels" ranging from an 1860 tricycle over Benz one-cylinder vehicles of the turn of the century, to a 1921-built 9.5-HP four-cylinder Ansaldo.
The riders drivers and their ladies appeared in clothes representing the height of fashion in the years when a puffing and panting horseless carriage caused all the neighbourhood to cough and from.
Many a modern onlooker may have wished for those times to return when a gentleman penny-farthing rider moved at a pace leisurely enough to keep a smile on his face and a high top hat firmly on his head.
