Background: A new Mini Metro electric train is being tested in a Paris suburb. The systems is fully automated, requiring no drivers or signalmen. It has been developed by the private French company, Matra, and named "Aramis" The aim is to provide a faster and more comfortable passenger service. Test runs are being carried out on a one kilometre line built on land belonging to the French National Railway. It connects an underground station with an overland line in the south of Paris. Further study and experiments will be carried out on this track and the French government hopes the service will be ready for public use in 1984.
