SYNOPSIS: In Jerusalem on Thursday evening, Israel's President Shazar and Prime Minister Mrs. Golda Meir welcomed four African Heads of State to a formal dinner marking the end of their visit to Israel -- a stopover during their tour of the Middle East during a peace mission. The African leaders -- Presidents Sanghor of Senegal, Ahmadou Ahidjo of the Cameroun, Nigeria's General Yakubu Gowon, and President Mobutu of the Zaire Republic....which was formerly known as the Congo Democratic Republic -- were scheduled to leave on Friday for Cairo for further talks on the situation with Egyptian Government officials.

Israel's President Shazar was later to express his appreciation at the visit, thanking the African leaders for their interest in the Middle East peace problem. President Senghor had defined their mission as one of promoting peace and understanding.

Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban was also present at the state dinner. It was later officially announced that Presidents Senghor and Mobutu would be returning to Israel for further talks in mid-November. The Presidents also added that it was their desire to continue towards Middle East peace negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations.
