Background: Czechoslovakia sporting enthusiasts, still elated from World Ice Hockey championship defeat of the Soviet Union this week, celebrated another major triumph yesterday (Friday). In a fast, exciting match, the national basketball team scored a convincing victory over a touring side from the United States.

Both teams contained a nucleus of players likely to compete in the Olympic Games later this year. In this encounter, the Czechoslovak team raced into a ten point lead and maintained their superiority to win 98-82.

SYNOPSIS: In Prague, national sporting attention focused on basketball last Friday as a visiting team from the United States -- playing in white -- took on the national Czechoslovak side. Only the previous day, the city had gone wild with enthusiasm over ice hockey, as the Czechoslovak side beat the Soviet Union to become new world champions. Not to be outdone, the basketball team raced into an early lead against the Americans.

The American side hit back. But by the time they settled into their game, the home team had taken an impressive ten-point lead.

Here the Czechoslovak side goes back into the attack to score again and maintain their lead. Both sides contained the nucleus of players likely to compete in the Olympic Games later this year.

On this occasion, the Czechoslovak side came out on top. This final scoring movement brought them victory by ninety-eight points to eighty-two.
