Background: Algerian rebel emissaries, M. Ahmed Boumendjel, M. Mohammed Ben Yahia and M. Hakiki Ben Amar, flew into Tunis airport, June 30 from their 'cease-fire' talks at Melun, France, with French Government officials. A party of journalists were given an interview in the airport's reception hall.
In a broadcast in Tunis, July 5, Ferhat Abbas, Premier of the self-styled FLN Government, repeated the views of the FLN on the Melun talks. It was logical, he said, that the conditions and details of a cease-fire meeting should be worked out by mutual agreement, "But the French Government do not see it that way, they want to dictate the conditions to us."
