The win has given Hearts a great chance of going into the next leg of the African Cup The return match will be played in Bangui, Central African Republic, on Real's home ground. In the past Real have handed out thrashings to visiting clubs, but with Hearts holding a five goal advantage, its unlikely the home side can get back into the Cup playoffs.
Real started well on Sunday and put the Hearts' defence under great pressure. but gradually the home side fought back and four goals in the first 45 minutes put the seal on the match. Olympique managed a goal in the second half but Hearts replied with two to make the final score six-one.
SYNOPSIS: Real Olympique, club champions of the Central African Republic kick off at the start of their African Cup match against Hearts of Oak, the Ghanaian club champions. Real, playing from left to right, were the visitors for the first leg encounter. Heart's were the first to score...the goal came in the eighth minute.
The visitors, stunned by the early goal, were anxious to keep Hearts to a small score, but a huge crowd was right behind the home team and howled for more goals...and twelve minutes later....in the 20th minute...Polo slammed home Hearts second.
Hearts scored again in the 25th minute and the 40th minute to make the score four-nil. But Real seemed far from resigned and continued to attack.
Hearts, playing from left to right, kicked off at the start of the second half determined to hold onto their lead.
Real received some hope in the 56th minute when Mamocko put the ball into the net to make the score four-one.
Facing a second-leg return match in Real's home town of Bangui...a location which seems to bring out the best in the home side...Hearts attacked even harder. They earned a corner kick and acting captain, Joe Ghartey slotted the ball into the net from the kick. That made the score five-one. The final score became six-one just before the end when Real's goalkeeper missed a simple shot. With a five goal advantage going into the final leg, Hearts are favourites to go into the next round of the African Cup.
