Background: At least six people have been drowned and more than 27,000 people evacuated from their homes since floods hit areas of West Malaysia since last friday.

The worst is yet to come - this warning was given by the Meteorological office of Pahang State as monsoon rains continued to lash The East Coast and other parts of the country for the sixth day.

Flood havoc is already estimated to run into millions of dollars. Houses have been washed away, vegetable farms destroyed and poultry and cattle drowned. Villagers caught by surprise have fled their homes leaving everything behind.

Helicopters from The Royal Malaysian Air Force have been airlifting more than 3,000 ton of food to the flood-hit areas, while farmers are desperately trying to salvage whatever they can with hundreds of acres of ripening paddy still under three to eight foot of water.

More than 1,000 red cross volunteers are working round the clock distributing blankets and meals for flood victims in Pahang.
