Background: When the competitors assembled for the Prix Wellington - one of the major international events in the Ostend International Horse Show - only one Italian competitor answered the roll call.
Following their phenomenal successes in London and Dublin, the Italians faced the Ostend opposition with only one star rider, the Marquis Lorenzo de Medici.
But, despite the absence of the spectacular D'Inzeo brothers, Italy still claimed first place.
Riding number 17, the Marquis de Medici completed a brilliant round to record the best time of the meeting. He was followed by number 30, Colonel Harry Llewellyn, of Great Britain, who also turned in a good performance.
The final result showed a victory for the Marquis de Medici with Colonel Harry Llewellyn finishing second and M. Peffe of Belgium third.
The Mayor of Ostend, Mr. Van Glabeke, presented the winners prizes and resettes.
