Background: The third display of French arms and armament opened in Satory, near Paris, on Monday (June 7). Most of France's defence equipment is on display, and the five-day show is being attended by military observers and politicians from all over the world. The exhibition offered a rare opportunity to film this very comprehensive display of France's military might in action.
SYNOPSIS: France opened its third public display of military equipment on Monday at Satory, just outside Paris. International military observers and politicians have been among the spectators at the five-day exhibition, during which the military might of France is put through its paces. PAUSE TWO SECONDS. This is the AMX 30 tank, equipped with heavy armament and a 105-millimetre gun for anti-tank fighting.
And this is its little brother, the AMX 10 infantry combat vehicle which carries II men. It has lighter defensive armour, and carries a 20 millimetre gun and a light machine-gun.....
....the bigger AMX 30 again, going through its paces......
One of the surface to air weapons systems used by the French army is this, the A.M.L. N.A.2., which is basically a swivelling launch torrent to fire rockets, mounted on an armoured vehicle.
The manoeuvrability of the M.2 amphibious armoured vehicle is its keypoint. It can carry 12-18 men over any type of terrain, on an unusual arrangement of eight flexible and independent driving wheels. In other words, the vehicle is propelled by which ever wheels happen to be on the ground at the time.
And if a river is too deep for amphibian craft, this presents no problem to the well-equipped army commander--who merely calls up an intriguing bridge-laying tank, another version of the AMX tank range.
The AMX tank also comes in other versions--one of which, equipped with a snorkel, can submerge fully.
Other amphibian craft, meanwhile, are constantly being developed by the French defence industry. This prototype of a self-propelled gun is just one of them....
