Background: The last day of April is the birthday of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and is a day of celebration and gaiety in Holland.
The steps leading up to the Paleis Soestdijk were covered with a profusion of flowers--- posies and bouquets--- that the townsfolk left there for the Queen.
The forty-nine years old Queen received representatives of those Dutch people who were forced to leave Indonesia in recent months. These people seized the opportunity to thank Queen Juliana for the hospitality that they had received on returning to Sibiland.
Throughout the country, and especially in the Niuenrkt---the oldest part of Amsterdam, where there was one of the traditional fairs--- the Dutch set about enjoying themselves. There was dancing in the streets, music everywhere, flags and buntings on almost every building. Holland was truly in a holiday mood.
