Background: There was a call for closer links and greater cooperation between African nations on Monday (February 8) by M. Hedi Nouira, Tunisia's Prime Minister. He was welcoming delegates to the Ministerial Council of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa who met in Tunis. Some 13 Ministers and 10 Secretaries of State from the 41 Members of the Commission are attending the Council. It is the first time since the founding of the Commission in 1969 that it has met in Tunis. The Council is scheduled to end on February 13.
