    The Soviet Union's men's field hockey team captured first place at the Friendship '84 Games at the Dynamo stadium in Moscow on August 26. The Soviet team defeated Poland in the final game 2-1. Farit Ziganghirov, number 5, put the Soviet ahead 1-0 after he scored following a short corner. Alexander Goncharov scored from close-range to put the Soviets ahead 2-0. The lone Poland goal came after a Polish player was fouled near the Soviet goal. Poland's number 8, Zbignew Rahvalski, scored after a short corner awarded because of the foul. The final results of the tournament had the Soviet Union "A" team taking first place, Poland in second and the Soviet "B" team in third sport.
