Background: New Delhi, May 27-An unending stream of people visited Tin Murti House this morning to pay homage to the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru on his third death anniversary. Among the earliest to arrive was Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She was followed by President Zakir Hussain, Vice-President Giri, Cabinet Ministers, diplomats and people from all walks of life.
The day began with devotional songs by M.S Subbalaks???. As the melody rising from under the Ashoka tree at Tin Murti filled the air evoking some of the saddes thoughts the visitors sat in meditation.
A large number of functions are being held in the Capital in connection with the anniversary.
The Jawahar Jyoti lit three years ago int he garden in Teen Murti is still glowing, reminding the people of the role played by Mr Nehru as one of the makers of modern India.
An exhibition on the home rule movement is being opened in the evening at the Nehru Memorial Museum.
At Shantivana a brief but solemn programme, including two minutes' silence, was observed. Boys and girls of the National Cadet Corps and Home Guards stood to attention as Mr Giri laid a wreath of white flowers on the semadhi of Nehru.
Mrs Gandhi placed a bouquet of red roses dear to her father.
Books written by Mr Nehru were on view at the Khadi Grainudyog Bhavan at Cosnaught Place His photographs from childhood to the day he??? were also ??? for the public???.
