    Background: The President of the Palestine Red Crescent medical organisation, Dr Fathi Arafat, says there's a strong case for an international inquiry into allegations of Israeli torture of Arabs. Israel has strongly denied the claims. Dr Arafat was speaking in Paris on Friday (24 June) after visiting French hospitals.

    SYNOPSIS: He gave a news conference at the Arab League headquarters. He said the World Health Organisation had tried to send a commission to the West Bank to inquiry into health and medical standards, but permission had been refused by the Israeli government.
