    Background: A bomb blast damaged the Soviet Consulate in West Berlin on Friday (7 March) and an Afghan organisation protesting the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan has claimed responsibility. The blast was the second anti-Soviet attack staged in West Berlin this year.

    SYNOPSIS: Glass was scattered across the road in front of the elegant villa in the residential suburb of Zehlendorf, in the United States sector of the city.

    Spokesmen from both the U.S. Military government and the West Berlin government expressed their regrets over the attack. Police said the bomb appeared to have been planted by a visitor to the Consulate. informed information on holidays in the Soviet Union had entered with a suitcase.
