    Background: The Arab world took another step towards unification on Saturday (9 February) when Arab Information Ministers met in Cairo to discuss a unified approach to the dissemination of information through their ministries.

    Egyptian Deputy Premier for Culture and Information, Dr. Mohammed Abdul Hatem, opened the meeting by describing the co-operation that has existed between Arab information on ministries during the October was with Israel.

    Mahmoud Riad, Secretary General of he arab League, joined Dr. Hatem in welcoming the ministers to the meeting that would be working on the plan developed during a six-day conference of the Arab Permanent Information Committee, which ended last week (Friday, 8 February).

    Among the countries represented at the ministerial meeting were Syria, the Sudan, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, Qatar, Jordan and Tunisia.
