Background: The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mrs. Srimavo Bandaranaike, has arrived in Malaysia to hold talks with her Malaysian counterpart, Datuk Hussein Onn.
Mrs. Bandaranaike was greeted at the airport by Datuk Hussein Onn and other leading Malaysian government officials including the Foreign Minister, Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen.
During her four day state visit Mrs. Bandaranaike was due to hold discussions with Malaysian officials concerning bilateral agreement and recent developments within the non-aligned movement.
Reuters news agency reported that one of the main subjects under discussion would be the efforts being made to develop the Indian Ocean into a nuclear free zone. This would effectively deter big power rivalry in the area.
Malaysian officials said an official communique would be issued at the end of the talks.
