Background: The large scale U.S. military offensive in the heavily wooded area north of Saigon known as the "Iron Triangle" is not taking many prisoners, but some of those who are captured are quite interesting to U.S. officials.

The first prisoner show a close up in our film is Captain Cao Ngoc Minh. He was the executive officer of a military training school at Ben Suc, a Viet Cong stronghold and major supply distribution center which has now been destroyed by troops of the U.S. Army's First Infantry Division. Captain Minh is from South Viet Nam, but he studied in Hanoi and is a member of the Communist Party. He was found hiding in a tunnel.

The second man shown close up in our film is 30-year-old Tran Van Nga, one of two teachers captured at Ben Suc. He taught civilians to read and write, was admitted to the Communist Party in 1956 and went to Hanoi to study until 1964. He has cooperated with his questioners and given them valuable information.

28-year-old Le Truong is the second teacher captured at Ben Suc and the third man shown in close-up on our film. He taught Viet Cong cadre the techniques of political indoctrination and propaganda. He studied at the Vinh branch of Hanoi University, is a dedicated member of the Communist Party and has not been cooperative with his American captors. Le Truong, was born in Da Nang, now the site of a big American military complex.

When they are captured, the prisoners are searched and taken to the First Infantry Division's forward headquarters at Lai Khe for questioning. When that is done, they are turned over to the South Vietnamese who run all the country's prisoner of war camps.

The Iron Triangle is a heavily wooded jungle area about 30 miles northwest of Saigon, that has long been a Viet Cong stronghold and staging area for guerrilla attacks on Saigon. It is honeycombed with tunnels which the U.S. troops are systematically destroying after their supplies of rice and ammunition have been removed. So far U.S. military officials claim 524 VC have been killed and 70 others captured since Cedar Falls began January 8th.
