Background: Senator Giovanni Leone, 63-year-old former Christian Democrat Premier and Neopolitan Law Professor, was elected Italy's new President on Friday (24 December) after 23 ballots and the longest election in the history of the Republic.

This film coverage is of Signer Leone's arrival at the Palazzo Giustignani, some time afterwards, to receive the congratulations of many leaders and official nomination by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Signor Alessandro Pertini.

SYNOPSIS: Italy has a new President. On Friday, after 23 ballets and the longest election in the history of the Republic, 63-year-old Senator Giovanni Leone....a former Christian Democrat Premier and professor of Neopolitan Law....was elected sixth President in the 23rd Electoral College ballet.

Signer Leone later went to the Palazzo Giustignani, near the Senate Hawse, to receive the congratulations of Chamber of Deputies President....Signer Alessandro Pertini....and official nomination.

Among these present to congratulate the new President, were Signer Aminters Fanfani, the Senate Leader, and earlier candidate for the Presidency, and else Premier Emilio Colombo.
