Background: The Volleyball World Cup has started in Japan, and in a women's match played in Tokyo on Tuesday (8 November) China beat the United States 15-11, 15-3, 12-15, 15-2.

SYNOPSIS: The match was played in the Olympic Gymnasium. The United States, in the dark strip, served first, but lost the point.

Then it was China's turn, but their service was also lost.

The much taller United States girls won this point, but the Chinese were in control of the game.

After this long rally the United States again came out on top, but the Chinese girls continued to combine well and had the edge. They were more mobile and attacked quickly.

With his team on the receiving end there were plenty for the United States coach to think about, but the Americans took this point.

The Chinese had a tendency to make mistakes when under pressure, and they dropped the third set after leading by 12 points to five. There was no mistake, however, with this point.

In the fourth set the Chinese were always in control, and they clinched the match with an ace.

It was an impressive victory by the Chinese girls, but the Japanese coach said he doubted whether they would trouble either his team or the South Koreans.
