    THE TWO AMERICANS, VINCENT BURGER AGED 38 - THE PILOT - AND HORACE PICKETT AGED 41 - THE NAVIGATOR - PLEADED GUILTY TO CARRYING MUNITIONS IN A PRIVATELY-OWNED AIRCRAFT.THIS IS CONTRARY TO AIR NAVIGATION ORDINANCE.THE CARGO WAS CONFISCATED AND EACH MAN WAS FINED GBP100 STERLING.

    THE AIRCRAFT, A SUPER CONSTELLATION, LANDED AT VALETTA LAST WEEK.ON BOARD WERE DISCOVERED 1,000 RIFLES; 180,000 ROUNDS OF RIFLE AMMUNITION; TWO SUB-MACHINE GUNS; 115,000 ROUNDS OF SUB-MACHINE GUN AMMUNITION; 1,000 AMMUNITION POUCHES AND 100 PARACHUTES.THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURER'S MARK ON THE WEAPONS, BUT THEY WERE DATED 1950/1951.

    THE PILOT SAID HE WAS ON A FLIGHT FROM PRAGUE, IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA, TO BENINA IN LIBYA.
