  • Description

King Hussein of Jordan, at the end of a visit to France, has expressed further doubts about the Middle East treaty between Egypt and Israel. Speaking to journalists on Monday (11 June) outside the Elysee Palace in Paris, he said he did not accept that Egyptian President Anwar Sadat speaks for the Palestinians.

SYNOPSIS: The King had been in France for five days on a private visit. On the final day of his stay, King Hussein and his wife, Queen Noor, had lunch with President and Madame Giscard at the Elysee. He described his talks with the French President on the Middle East as having taken place in an atmosphere of understanding and friendship. But he wasn't optimistic about the peace treaty.

Before the King left, it was announced that France had agreed to lend Jordan 50 million U,S. dollars, primarily to finance a telecommunications project. The agreement was worked out with the French Ministry of the Economy.
