    Background: The Commander in chief of The British Army of the Rhine, General Sir John Hackett KCB CBTE DSO MC visited the RATHAUS (Tour Hall) of Osnabrueck & met officials there on 3 March.

    General Hackett had spent the previous days inspecting units of 12 INFANTRY BRIGADE BAOR in the Osnabrueck area. He was accompanied by Brigadier HMG BOND who commands 12 INF BDE, and members of his staff. The reception took place in the Hall of Peace (where the peace treaty showing the 30 years loan was signed in 1648.

    The portraits around the walls are of European envoys to the peace treaty.
