    Background: The Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah As-Salim As-Sabah, attended the graduation ceremony of the Third Lot of cadet officers from the Military Academy of Kuwait on Monday (May 15). The Sheikh, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, was accompanied by the Prime Minister, Crown Prince Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber, and other state leaders including the Speaker of the National Assembly and government ministers.

    Among visitors to Kuwait for the ceremony was the Deputy Commander of the Armed Fores of the neighbouring Arabian Gulf state of Bahrain.

    SYNOPSIS: The Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah As-Sals As-Sabah, reviewed the Third Lot of officer cadets passing out of the Kuwait Military Academy on Monday. The Sheikh was accompanied at the ceremony by other Kuwaiti leaders including the Prime Minister, Crown Prince Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber; the Speaker of the National Assembly; government ministers; and senior army officers. The Sheikh, who is Supreme Commander of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, presented the traditional awards--including the Sword of Honour-to the best cadets.

    Among other VIP's who watched the passing out parade was the Deputy Commander of the Bahrain Armed Forces, Sheikh Isea Ben Rashed Al-Khalifa. After the parade, the Amir reminded the cadets, in a speech, of their new responsibilities towards their country and himself. PAUSE THREE SECONDS. Kuwait has a small but well-trained army.
