Background: The King of Afghanistan, H.M. Mohammed Zahir Sah was invited to pay an official visit to Turkey. After visiting Ankara and Kozlu and Zonguldok he arrived in Istanbul this evening. His Majesty come in by the motor yacht Acar, which is retained exclusively for the President and his guests, to Sorayburnu ( Cape of the Seraglio), to be greeted by Premier Mendares and other officials. The Turkish and Afghan national anthems we played and then, under banners with the word "welcome" in Afghan, the party drive slowly through the town to the cheers and greetings of the crowds.

King Mohammed Zahir Shah of Afghanistan is the third monarch to visit Turkey in, the past month.
