    And speaking of Olympian Zeus, here is a view of the Mount Olympus, the Home of Gods of ancient Greece. Bad weather and snowfall isolated from the rest of the country almost all the villages of the Olympus area.

    Women, coming down from their villages, are seen taking water from continuous running source.

    All the roads being blocked, this old woman goes down the snow-covered path to bring bread to her grand-children in the village.

    A poor house, made of stones and straw, shelters these kids of an isolated area.

    Holding a baby-sheep, young Demetrios and his brother Nikolas, convey their herd of sheeps home as nothing remained uncovered. Their father went down town to secure some chaff for their sheeps, for they are starving and there's no grass at all. (4-5 shots).

    More women-villagers are seen going down the snow-covered path, the only safe way to reach their home; other road communications are cut.

    Background: A recent cold spell in Greece, accompanied by heavy snowfall in the mountain areas, has disrupted rail and road communications. Temperatures below 20 degrees under zero centigrade were reported from Northern Greece, immobilising, for several days, the Simplon Express which links Istanbul and western Europe.

    Thousands of sheep died from hunger and exposure while, according to the Government, 120,000 more are threatened.

    Also, several people have died of exposure in Macedonia and Thrace, and there have been reported of starving wolves and wild boars constituting a real danger to isolated villages.

    And here are pictures of the Olympian Zeus Temple pillars, seen in snowfall for the first time in centuries. Here, too, is a view of Mount Olympia in whose area most of the villages are cut off...
