Background: Colombo, Ceylon, last week was the scene of a conference by six nonaligned nation--the United Arab Republic, Ghana, Indonesia, Burma, Cambodia and Ceylon. The Afro-Asian nations gathered to discuss the conflict between India and Communist China and to discuss their own policies of non-alignment.

Their meeting in the Ceylonese Senate produced one decision-- a resolution to send Prime Minister Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Ceylon to Peking and New Delhi as a peace emissary. All delegates agreed there was a need for action to prevent the Indian-Chinese battle from developing into a third world war. The Conference is withholding publication of its arguments to China and India, fearing that premature disclosure might prejudice their endeavours. The Conference of the six Afro-Asian non-aligned countries decided that their efforts in seeking peaceful negotiations between the two conflicting nations should not end with the Colombo meetings but should be continued until peace talks can be arranged.
