"I must tell you that the Government of my country had to make the decision to break its relation with France but only after making a aries of protests and demonstration to express that the French nuclear tests in the Pacific are harmful to the health of the population and the natural resources. This is perhaps the main reason for our decision. We are far from having anti-French feelings. It is very much the reverse. It is precisely in that friendly spirit that I hope we may soon envisage the restoration of diplomatic relations, if France gives us the opportunity."
