TROOPS WERE CUT IN FORCE IN DJAKARTA YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) IN WHAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS THE LARGEST SHOW OF MILITARY STRENGTH IN THE INDONESIAN CAPITAL FOR A YEAR.
Five thousand troops parade in Djakarta Tuesday, two days before the Indonesian Congress meets to consider appointing General Suharto full President.-
The parade of navy, police, army and air force units, included tanks, helicopters and rocket launchers.-
It was the biggest show of armed strength in the Indonesian capital for one year.
Meanwhile, Dr.Sukarno's old CONEFO complex in being prepared for the Congress meeting which begins on Thursday.
The building, begun with Communist Chinese aid, was originally intended for Sukarno's Conference of the New Emerging Forces. Its cost was originally estimated at fifty million U.S. dollars.-
Indonesia's economic troubles have left the complex still only partly completed. It will be the first time the Congress, of 828 members,has met there.-

THE SOLDIERS WERE MOBILISED TO PREVENT THREATENED DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST THE RULING REGIME. STUDENTS THREATENED DEMONSTRATIONS CONGRESS, INDONESIAN'S TOP POLICY-MAKING BODY, WHICH IS DUE TO MEETING TOMORROW (THURSDAY) TO PROCLAIM GENERAL SUHARTO AS PRESIDENT AND DELAY GENERAL ELECTIONS.
FIVE THOUSAND TROOPS HAVE BEEN CONCENTRATED IN DJAKARTA TO DEAL WITH ANY DISTURBANCES DURING THE CONGRESS SESSION. THEY INCLUDE MOBILE ARMOURED UNITS AND INFANTRYMEN.
THE STUDENTS' DEMONSTRATION THREATENED TO CLASH TO THE SWEARING IN OF 130 NEW CONGRESS MEMBERS, APPOINTED BY GENERAL SUHARTO. THERE WAS SIMILAR DEMONSTRATION ON MONDAY WHEN ANOTHER 120 CONGRESS MEMBERS WERE SWORN IN.
THE STUDENTS HAVE SAID THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH GENERAL SUHARTO'S GROWING POWERS THAN THEY ARE BY THE PROSPECT OF ELECTIONS BEING POSTPONED POSSIBLY FOR FIVE YEARS.
