Thirty members of the English Club at the University of Abidjan left for the United States last Thursday (June 25) for a nine-week tour.

Background: Thirty members of the English Club at the University of Abidjan left for the United States last Thursday (June 25) for a nine-week tour. They are the first African students to make such a trip. In the past such programme have been organised for European students.
The group includes 7 girls The largest representation is provided by the Ivory Coast which has 22 students making the trip.
The students will spend nine weeks touring the United States and making speeches at summer camps. They'll also spend some time living with American families in rural areas of the United States.
Money for the trip came from the students themselves with help from the United States Department of State.
