Background: At this morning's cabinet meeting the Israeli negotiating team reported on Egypt's latest proposals and it can be assumed that the cabinet discussed Israel's answer and possibly the counterproposals. But whilst Israel is definitely trying to keep the negotiations going, it is reaching the very limit of its concessions and it is hoped that the USA will now try, for a change, to soften the Egyptian stand. For the meeting also arrived PM Rabin's newly appointed adviser, Res. General Arik Sharon, the officer who led the Israeli forces across the Suez canal in 73 and a known hawk, and the Chief of Staff Gen. Gur arrived with maps. The cabinet secretary, Mr. Gershon Avner, read the cabinet communique in English.
