Background: With wrathful indignation the Bulgarian people have risen as one against the imperialist aggression in Cuba, joining the surging protest of millions of people on every continent.
At meetings and gatherings in town and village, streets and public squares, the Bulgarian people have resolutely denounced the culprits. Together with all other working people in the world, the Bulgarians warn the American imperialists against the fatal consequences of this outrageous act of banditism. Like the deep rumblings of a volcano, the people's indignation swept through the Bulgarian Capital. A straight-jacket for the provocateurs against world peace!
Spring has come, but never before has it seen such stormy days of righteous indignation. The Universities and other educational institutions grew into flaming rostrums. The fiery wrath of thousands of young men and women spread in the streets, gathering before the building with the emblem of the United States.
American imperialist! You alone are to blame for the unprovoked aggression against Cuba!
Never to be forgotten hours which the Bulgarian people manifested their full solidarity with all peoples in the world. Fiery slogans were hurled at the American Legation in Sofia, reflecting the powerful faith of the Bulgarian people in the invincibility of the Cuban revolution.
THE FATHERLAND OR DEATH - a sacred oath voiced by the Cuban people. The Fatherland or Death! - so like the behest of our own great poet and revolutionary - Christo Botev - in our country's long struggles against alien rule.
In the late afternoon the swelling tide of indignation brought together more than 150,000 Bulgarian men and women to September 9 Square. Anghel Zhivkov, President of the Sofia Urban Committee opened the meeting. At the Rostrum George Pirinski, Vice-president of the Bulgarian National Peace Committee.
The Soviet peoples and all other peace loving people in the world will not desert the Cuban people in their hour of need.
Lozka Taskova, of the Kliment Voroshilov electrical factory. "The treacherous hand of the aggression must be severed!"
University student Spirov. Death to the aggressors!
With clenched fists the great gathering approved the Declaration of the Bulgarian Government.
CUBA, today every honest heart is with you!
Fidel, our distant brother,
Our hearts throbbed at thy call:
The Fatherland - or Death!
