Background: A three-week international seminar on journalism has opened in Accra, Ghana. The seminar has been jointly organised by the International Journalists' Federation and the Brussels-based African Journalism Institute with the cooperation of the Ghana Journalists' Association.
The inaugural ceremony was performed by Mr. Nunoo, a member of the National Liberation Council. Also present were the principal secretary at the Ministry of Information, Mr. Odunton.
Mr. Nunoo was deputising for Mr. Harlley, the vice-chairman of the National Liberation Council and Inspector General of Police. He told the delegates that there was need for such seminars to enable African journalists to learn the rudiments of their craft.
Mr. Ronald Watts, of the International Journalists' Federation said the aim of the federation is to provide professional training for journalists through short-term courses.
On behalf of the Ghana Association of Journalists, Mr. Henry Thompson thanked the organisers for holding the seminar in Ghana.
