    Background: About 5,000 students marched to the National Assembly in Lisbon tonight (thursday) to protest against the minority socialist government's closure of Coimbra University in Central Portugal.

    Education Minister closed down Coimbra University two weeks ago after students there refused to end a two week-old strike. They were protesting against the Government's reinstatement of six professors purged by Left-wing students during the height of revolutionary for our in Portugal in 1975.
