Background: The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) started a strike on Oct. 4, and the communist Union (ALTUC) also join the strike although they had not given time of strike notice. After a day the INTUC, agreed with management and called off the strike, but the communist continued the strike and it was decided by both the Unions to have a general strike on Oct.26. In the meantime the communist workers used violence over the loyal workers and the police who were there. The police opened fire thrice and a number of workers were injured, two were killed. Even some police officials were injured, by stone throwing by strikers. The situation was very tense and the loyal workers were afraid to go for work. This strike spread all over the Kerala plantion area. But before 25th the INTUC took back their idea of joining the general strike. The management of the Kannan devan company are negotiating with the government and also the plantation representatives are meeting the Prime Minister, Nebru to bring an early settlement. The High Commissioner of UK also visited the spot earlier.
