    In North Yemen, rescue workers have dug another 1,000 bodies from ruins of buildings wrecked in an earthquake on December 13. In a report from the North Yemen capital of Sanaa, the official Saudi Press Agency quoted health officers as saying that by December 15 more than 2,000 people were known to have died in the 40-second tremor. It said more than 1,200 people had been injured in the disaster in which 147 villages were damaged or destroyed. The search for more bodies was containing in Dhamar Province, the hardest hit by the earthquake which measured between four and six on the Richter scale. North Yemen's rich neighbour, Saudi Arabia, has been pouring in relief aid in the form of food, medical supplies and temporary shelters. Soldiers and civilians armed with shovels and bulldozers had to dig into heaps of devastated stone and mud houses for survivors and for the bodies of the dead. the injured have been admitted into hospitals in Dhamar, Sanaa and Taiz, in the country's south. The scale of the tremor was unprecedented in the country's history and its impact matched similar disasters in Iran.
