The Emperor and his party were accorded full honours at the airport. President Michel Micombero (pronounced as "Mishombero") welcomed the official party.
SYNOPSIS: Ethiopia's leader, Emperor Haile Selassie arrived in Burundi on last Tuesday for the start of his three-day official state visit.
Burundi's President Michel Micombero was later to call Emperor Haile Selassie one of the greatest architects of African unity. He said that Ethiopia had always struggled for the liberation of African countries still under foreign domination.
Emperor Haile Selassie was greeted at Bujumbura airport by troops and dancers. The Emperor later inspected a guard of honour with President Micombero.
Emperor Haile Selassie and his official party were to spend three days in Burundi before going to Europe.
