Background: Several thousand people joined a London May Day parade and marched from the Victoria Embankment through the city streets to Hyce Park, where they were addressed by the Labour Party's "shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer", Harold Wilson. Bands, posters, placards and tableaux helped to create a holiday mood with the crowds.

Constantly interrupted by supporters of the anti-H-bomb campaign, Mr. Wilson attacked the failure of the Government to speak cut more strongly against the South African policy of apartheid. He stated that the Labour Party had commended the Prime Minister for his "wind of change" speed but now wanted to see" least wind and more change". He said that the South African Government had put itself beyond the pale of human civilization.

The parade was organized by the London Joint May Day Committee, and estimation of its size varied from 2,000 to 15,000. To avoid traffic congestion the demonstration was divided into sections.
