Background: The Tenth Rural Youth Leaders Seminar has just been held in Taiwan. Delegates came from eight Asian nations, as well as New Zealand and the United States. They were greeted by Mr. Y.S. Sun, Minister of Economic Affairs, who pointed out that agricultural exports from Taiwan had increased by four times between 1952 and 1971. He stressed the importance to developing Asian countries of education in the agricultural field, both by regular schooling and by extra-curricular education among young people in the country-side, Asian delegates came from Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. They were shown some of the strides made by agriculture on Taiwan. They inspected nursery farms, livestock and sugar cane production during a five day field trip to farms and development centres.
