President Ford has said that the worst recessing in the United States since the 1930's depression is near its end.
"You are aware that a government big enough to give us everything we want is a government big enough to take from us everything we have. I do not accept a scenario of doom and defeat. We've just begun to fight for a new balance between the public and private elements of our society."

Background: President Ford has said that the worst recessing in the United States since the 1930's depression is near its end.
The President was speaking to the National Federation of Independent Business in Washington on Tuesday (17 June).
He added that the country was now at the bottom of its economic slide and would soon be on its way up.
He pointed out that home building was showing strong signs of recovery, interest rates were down and orders for plant and equipment were up in April by more than 15 percent on the March figures.
Mr. Ford said tat while the unemployment rate had gone up to 9.2 percent, more than half a million Americans found jobs between March and May. And ??? sales were rising along with consumer confidence.
