Background: Wimbledon 1960 ended July 2 with another victory for Brazil's sultry Maria Bueno - giving her the Women's Singles title for the second year in succession. She Beat Sandra Reynolds of South Africa 8-6, 6-love.

The Duchess of Kent came on to the Centre Court to present her with the Trophy.

They were to meet again when Bueno won her second title - in the Women's Doubles, partnered by Darlene Hard, U.S.

Bueno seemed on the point of winning the Triple Crown, too. With the score at 5-2 in her favour in the final set of the Mixed Doubles, Darlene Hard went off the court for 5 minutes - to fix her dress, it later transpired.

The delay was fatal for Bueno's concentration, and set and match went to Darlene Hard and her partner Rod Laver, Australia.
