SYNOPSIS: The Twenty-Fourth Annual South American Basketball Championship began on Friday in Montevideo, Uruguay. The opening ceremonies in the Municipal Stadium included a parade of the teams on the basketball court.
Argentina seemed to dominate play from the start, and were able to control the ball from the opening centre jump. They scored the firs basket and Chile were down by two points.
By halftime, Argentina had the game well in hand and were leading by a score of fifty-one to twenty-six. Chile were never able to cut the lead by much after that.
