Background: Hundreds of people crowded into Damascus University on Friday (27 February) to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the Democratic front for Liberation of Palestine.
During the celebrations in the Syrian capital several leaders representing palestinian organisations and the Baath Arab Socialist Party spoke about liberating Palestinians.
The leader of the Democratic Front for Liberation of Palestine, Nayef Hawatmi, strongly attacked the Jordanian regime and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat during his speech.
Mr. Hawatmi also criticised the Falanges and Al-Ahrar in Lebanon and the United States' intelligence service.
Later in his speech, Mr. Hawatmi praised the Soviet Union for its support of the Palestinian cause.
