    This is Kommotini, mostly inhabited by Turks. The bridge, near the bulgarian border is just a few off the city.

    Background: The continuous bad weather, the torrential rains and thaw of snow in the greco-bulgarian border and southern Bulgaria, caused serious damages to railway communications, bridges and roads, while hundreds of thousands of cultivated accres of land have been flooded.Some 400,000 people will become homeless should this situation continues for another fortnight, as nothing as been done yet, inspite the constant contact of the Greek Authorities with the Turkish and the Bulgarian ones.Yesterday, due to big rains and landslides near the banks of the river Kuru-tsai (coming from Bulgaria), the railway bridge uniting Europe and Istambul via Salonika collapsed and completely destroyed.Thus, all train passengers travelling to Istambul are being transferred by busses to the other side of the river through another stone bridge to pick up the other train and vice-versa.Efforts are being made to repair the bridge and restore the railway communications.
