Two days before the event, riders form European countries were at Wembley practising for the world title tussle.
The finalists are from Britain, the Soviet Union, Poland, Sweden and Denmark.
Pre-race favourites are last year's world championship winner, Ole Olsen of Denmark, and former Champion Ivan Mauger, a New Zealander who rides in the British team.
However there is a strong challenge from the Soviet Union and Sweden, ???h fielding six riders.
